Recent Issues with Scrobbling
Around about two weeks ago I started experiencing problems with Last.fm‘s scrobbling service. Scrobbling tracks what songs and albums users listen to and suggest similar music that the listeners may also like.
The specific problem that I have been facing is that certain online services and programs have either stopped scrobbling or are not scrobbling reliably. I have not experienced any problems with iTunes or from the music player on my EVO. However, most other music players that I have listened on – including VLC – have stopped scrobbling. Also, the online service Pandorafm had not worked last week, but appears to be working as of right now.
I can find no pattern as to why some of these programs and services have stopped scrobbling – or why Pandorafm has started working again. While searching the Internet, I found many complaints that VLC had stopped submitting tracks to Last.fm or had only been sending this information intermittently; however, no one seemed to have an answer as to why.
This issue does not appear to be a problem at Last.fm, or nothing would scrobble. However, I find it odd that a number of unrelated programs and services would stop working at or around the same time. Also, I have not changed my Last.fm password recently (which would prevent programs from working until I updated their login credentials).
Have any of you reading this had similar problems? If so, do you have any idea what the cause is or was? Also, If anyone from Last.fm has a suggestion, I would love to hear something official. The same goes for the creators of VLC and Pandorafm.
iTunes is scrobbling, but pandorafm and lastpandora aren’t. They were fine till last week; now they’re not scrobbling. I’m using Firefox 3.6.16
Pandorafm just worked for me, are you still having issues with it?
Most of my Scrobbling issues cleared up on their own, except for a new issue that has cropped up. For some reason the music player on my phone Scrobbles each song I listen to twice.
